HPTC News

1.        Champions Again.  Congratulations to Cotton Cobb and Bob Lukin for adding yet another trophy to their arsenal!!!

2.        HPTC Round Robin Doubles Competition on June 25thPat Coyle did terrific work in organizing this event, which was very well received.  Based on feedback encouraging this to be held again, Pat promises to do it again soon.

3.       MIX-and-MATCH TENNIS on WEDNESDAYS, 5:30pm.  PAUL SYLVESTER reports that this program is popular and well-attended.  Join in; bring guests.  Set up your own game or Paul will match up players.  Paul has done a great job from the beginning in organizing this.

4.       SPECIAL THANKS.  Special thanks goes to Mark Rosenblum for his work in repairing the roller.  With his typical attention to details and interest in having everything function well, BRENT CABLE noted the ice machine had substantially slowed down production and called upon WALTER BERTSCHE and MARK for help.  Both once again responded cheerfully to pamper their old friend (the ice machine).

5.       MEN’S MATCH WITH CINCINNATI TENNIS CLUB.  ROB BLOCK advises that he is working with BRENT CABLE and COTTON COBB to arrange this year’s match with CTC, to be held this Saturday at Hyde Park.  All six courts will be in use from 12 noon until 3pm.

6.       STAFF CHANGES.  Lane Merten has resigned and CLINT SAVAGE is assuming her duties for the remainder of this season.

7.       2011 DIRECTORY.  If you haven’t yet obtained your copy of this year’s directory, see Rock and get one.

8.       NEW MEMBER.  Welcome Bill Woodword.  Rock has his contact information.

We’re well into the 2nd half of the season.  We’ve had lots of play, and the staff has done a good job.  Periodically some members have jumped in to assist them with court maintenance matters.  HPTC is a special place, as demonstrated by the camaraderie among the members and their helpful assistance in making programs work as well as in maintaining the Club.  Thanks.

See you on the courts!!  Stay hydrated!!

Wednesday Evening Open-Play.  Board Member Paul Sylvester reports that this new program is well attended.  Play begins around 5:30pm every Wednesday.  Paul mixes-and-matches attendees for Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles play.  It’s an opportunity to meet new members and current members, and play.  Guests are welcome; the guest fee for this evening play only is waived until the end of June.  Questions can be directed to Paul.
Round-Robin Tennis Tournament.  As you have seen from his June 13 email to members, Pat Coyle is organizing on Saturday, June 25th, a Men’s & Women’s ROUND ROBIN doubles tournament, beginning at 11:30 am and will be completed by 3 pm.  This should be great fun, so don’t hesitate to sign up.  Questions can be directed to Pat.
Clinics & Lessons.  Bill Jordan is organizing clinics for the remainder of the year, and is also available for individual & group lessons.  Contact Bill for more information.
Courts.  Now that the rains have stopped their almost daily occurrence, regular daily play is underway.  Thanks to Rock and the staff, the courts are in very good condition and are playing well.
Sign-in.  Please make sure you sign-in whenever you play.  The sign-in table is adjacent to the Clubhouse door.  This helps the Club keep track of play and to know when courts are utilized.
Guest Fees.  Also, as a reminder, members are responsible for guest fees; your Club relies on the honor system for payment.  A guest sign-in sheet is provided at the sign-in desk.  If staff is unavailable to collect the fee, use an envelope provided at the sign-in desk and leave the payment at the desk, or leave a note telling us that the fee will be paid when you next return to the Club.  Leaving the Club after your guest plays without doing one of these things is unfair and unacceptable to your Club.  These fees are an important source of income to assist us in well-maintaining your Club.  Your attention to this is appreciated.
We’re one-third of the way into the season.  Thanks to each of you for your support and appreciation for the work being done to maintain the Club.  Rock, Brent, Lane and Chris deserve a pat on the back from each of us.
Delightful weather now prevails.  Enjoy your Club!!  See you on the courts!
